The Jeanette Project is situated north east of Welkom in the Free State Province of South Africa, approximately 2km north of the town of Odendaalsrus. Jeanette shares a common boundary with Harmony’s Target gold mine.

On 1 February 2008 Taung and its shareholder, African Precious Minerals Limited (APM), entered into an agreement with ARMGold/Harmony in terms of which Taung acquired 100% of Jeanette by way of the issue of Taung shares to APM.

The Khaki Shale issue: Re-examination of the borehole cores in Taung's possession initially indicated that the quartzite beam overlying the Basal Reef conglomerate could be sufficiently thick and competent to limit any dilution of mined ore or collapses of incompetent shale into the workings. But we have chosen not to pursue this so called undercutting method but, rather, turn a challenge into an opportunity.
